Hi, I’m Kristina, manager of the Church Road branch of Petite Feet. I have been with Petite Feet for 10 years and in this time I have worked as nursery assistant, supervisor and deputy manager before my current manager position. In this time I have seen the nursery and children grow and develop into the successful business it is now. What motivates me most in my position is seeing the children come in each day so enthusiastic, happy and ready to learn and play.

I also love creating trusting and nurturing relationships with each family that comes through our doors and ensuring they each get the full positive Petite Feet experience of seeing their child grow and develop from babies through to afterschool. Being part of Petite Feet is like having another family, staff relationships with each other and with the parents are close knit and that’s what makes us an outstanding setting. In my spare time I enjoy going on days out with my husband and son or seeing family, shopping or going on walks

Carol Murray
Assistant Manager

My Name is Carol Whiteside I have worked in childcare for 10 years. I have an HNC Advanced Practice in working with children and families (level 5). I have worked at Petite Feet for nearly 4 years. During my time here at Petite Feet I have had a few different roles I have been a supervisor and duty manager. I have enjoyed working my way up through the nursery. What I love about my role most is getting to meet new parents and children and help them settle into nursery life. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my little girl, going to the park or walks.

The Nursery

8 weeks – 2 years

Baby/Infant room provides a wealth of opportunities for movement and exploration at an age where the world around us is most exciting and intriguing. A carefully planned routine providing opportunities to develop physically, expand senses, explore the arts and develop relationships all helps in enabling babies/infants to connect with their environment and others as well as reaching their own personal milestones. The baby/infant rooms are split into two separate rooms with a soothing cot room available for those sleepy babies needing to rest during the busy day. Music and relaxing LED controlled mood lighting helps to create a calming atmosphere.

Babies range from 8 weeks to 12 months with infants from around 12 months to 2 years. Each room will allow for physical movement from sitting up and crawling in babies to walking and running in infants and all of these special moments are celebrated and praised daily by the dedicated baby/infant staff.

Meal times are catered for through all stages of weaning, preferences and allergies and each child is encouraged to experiment and develop that all important ‘feeding themselves’ skill. Nappy changing is carried out in the beautifully decorated separate changing areas with in-built storage for every child’s belongings to keep them safe and children can also have their clothes changed after all the messy fun, outdoor exploration and fun the babies/infants get up to on a daily basis.

All rooms use Famly App, allowing you to login and see how your child is enjoying their day.

All rooms are aromatherapy diffused, encouraging calm, reducing stress in our little ones and encourage sleep times in designated cot rooms.

2 – 3 years

Toddlers is a busy little ‘hub’ full of activity and fun. From singing to dancing to building to baking and of course getting messy. These little ones are always very active and creative. An important part of the toddler room is a wonderful purpose built sensory area with indoor grass, picket fence and sensory stimulating equipment and lighting. An area important for relaxing and quiet time during a busy day. Toddlers also have a large, spacious outdoor garden area fully equipped with soft flooring, sunken trampoline, play houses, climbing frames and outdoor group time area. Being so busy it is important that our little ones get all the rest they need so toddlers have a designated rest time where children can recharge and get ready for some afternoon fun.

Toilet training can be a challenging time for any parent but here at Petite Feet we help share the experience by adopting the same routine followed at home. Children are rewarded and guided through toilet training using reward charts, stickers etc and help them move onto the next stage when they feel ready. Child sized toileting facilities as well as nappy changing area is provided in the toddler room with designated handwashing and teeth brushing areas to promote self-care and independence.

Getting messy in toddlers is an everyday must. It is all about exploring textures, colours, materials and allowing them to express themselves through messy art. We have a dedicated messy play area that is available to the children throughout the day with activities regularly changed and rotated. There is everything from paint to sand to water to homemade playdough to colouring.

At this age it is important to encourage social interaction and so group time is an important part of the routine. Toddlers do story time, song time, learning of colours and numbers and age appropriate flashcards. We often have visitors to enhance this learning such as Jo Jingles and storytellers to name a few.

3 – School Age
Pre-school is all about encouraging your child to become more independent and use their imagination. The highly trained preschool staff integrate the NI Preschool Curriculum into the daily routine and layout of the room to develop and grow those skills and knowledge needed for starting Primary 1.

Their fun day in preschool includes imaginative role play where the children can become anything from spacemen to doctors to princesses. There is a dedicated role play area where imagination can grow and develop, and the area transforms into a world full of adventure. As also included in toddlers, preschool have their own indoor sensory garden area. This area has sensory equipment and toys, LED controlled lighting, soft furnishings and indoor grass. An area very important for those chilled, relaxing moments after a long day playing and growing.

Developing friendships and blossoming relationships is at the core of pre-school and so group time helps create these moments. The children learn about colours, numbers, phonics and flashcards in a fun educational way with their friends. Learning is also incorporated through messy play where the children get time to express themselves creatively through art and craft. Preschool have their own messy room where all the fun happens, and children are also able to bring natural materials from outside into the messy room to create their masterpieces as well as paint, homemade play dough, water and sand to name a few.

At this age the pre-schoolers love to get outdoors and explore their surroundings so their outdoor garden area with bikes, scooters and climbing frames is perfect for all that running, jumping and climbing. No matter the weather preschool love getting outdoors so wellies and raincoats are a must in this room. Preschool also get to venture out on nature walks and trips to explore the wider world and learn about the world around us. Being outside has no limits and sometimes pre-schoolers bring their indoors outdoors and have group time and snack time outside in the natural environment.

Hear from happy parents

The reason I decided to pick Petite Feet was because of the large open spaces for the children to play. As a first time Mum I was so nervous about returning to work and using day care for my little girl but as soon as she started Petite Feet I knew I had nothing to worry about. The staff in the baby room were so reassuring and always put my mind at ease no matter the worry or issue. Nothing is too much for them. I love the app and the amount of updates put up each day is outstanding, especially the photos of her having fun! Thank you to everyone at Petite Feet!

‘I cannot recommend this place highly enough. I want to go here myself. The attention to each child from the staff is second to none. Since the first viewing I had a really good feel about the place, I went back for a second viewing and when my little one started she absolutely loved it. She used to go to a different nursery but because of moving house we had to move but Petite Feet was the best decision ever, without a doubt. The moment she walked in on day one, she took a staff members hand and went with her, she didn’t cry which I was so shocked at as the previous nursery she would have cried so much at handover. We have been with them since September and she has not cried once. She walks in every morning waving bye and blowing kisses to me, I cannot explain the relief it is for me to see it. Honestly it feels like I am leaving her with family, those girls are the absolute best without a doubt. Thank you Petite Feet for all you do, this place is a credit to you all and without a doubt best nursery in the area’

TODDLER ROOM

Sophie started in the toddler room in Petite Feet, it was such an easy transition and she absolutely thrived. She’s now in the pre-school room which she really loves! This is 100% down to the caring, thoughtful and enthusiastic staff who are some of Sophie‘s favourite people in the world! The range of indoor and outdoor activities are endless and the imaginative, messy and educational play has really shaped her into her own little amazing person with so many stories to tell at the end of each day! Sophie especially loves the long walks with her friends and trips to the park. As parents, we are very reassured by the daily regular updates and gorgeous photos on the app and seeing them is often our favourite part of the working day! Joining the Petite Feet family was the best decision we ever made!!
